New Left 4 Dead DLC

In a previous post I asked, “Is Left 4 Dead 2 on its way out?” It seems to be alive and kicking becase there will be new Left 4 Dead DLC coming to all of you L4D fans. A new community campaign called Cold Stream will be released along with the three remaining Left 4 Dead 1 campaigns AFTER Portal 2 has been released in April. That puts the yet to be named DLC release date to the end of April or shortly there after.

I would see this upcoming DLC release as an indicator that L4D3 is not likely to be released in 2011. It is apparent Valve’s focus still remains on boosting the current Left 4 Dead 2 and not of Left 4 Dead 3.

I still think we are becoming more likely to see a L4D3 built on the latest Steam game engine.

What are you thoughts about the Left 4 Dead 1 campaigns being ported to L4D2? If the maps are true replicas of the originals, I see little value remaining in L4D1.

My question to you is, would you welcome L4D 3 if it had all or some of the previous maps, special infected, survivors or game modes from L4D1 and L4D2?

  • I'd have been much happer if L4D2 was just new maps and weapons. The new survivors are unremarkable. Melee weapons should only be a viable choice at the start of campaigns where firearms are scarce, and they shouldn't be so effective against specials. The charger, jockey, and spitter are just hassle. Not only was L4D2 content a dissapointment, it came after valve promised new free content for L4D1, and all we got was the world's worst 2-map campaign and survival mode in that whole time. And to answer your question, the cherry on the cake was giving L4D1 content to L4D2 players for free. I'm not even complaining about the let-down of promised free content not arriving anymore.... I'm complaining that the vibe and flow from the first game has been replaced with inferior style. The new infected were a clumsy decision, the new survivors are like cartoon characters... and soon the game will resemble Serious Sam. What I'm complaining about, is that we're being forced for forget how great the game once was because L4D2 is REALLY pushing the prequel in to the sideline.

So... *deep breath* I don't think it's a question of "should they add old maps to new releases"... I think it's a question of "should valve get their crap together". If L4D3 is a legitimate improvement for gameplay, then I'd like to see the old maps in it. Otherwise, I very much wouldn't because the better games will be obscured again. That's what it comes down to for me.

    Cheers. :P

    • Who wha ??? No idea what u just said but ok : ....... Big words can't understand annoying ”-_-”

      • Calm, what do you mean you don't understand what he said? Do you not speak English or something?

Anyway, Streaksy, I agree with you almost completely. I have to say I like the addition of the melee weapons, and the guns in the second game are much more fun to use than the ones in the first game, particularly the Combine and Semi-Auto Sniper Rifle. But, yeah, the characters in the second game are weak. The new special infected are just annoyances, not nearly as well thought out as the original specials. While I'm glad they're releasing the first maps into the second game, because I think the second game is more technically polished than the first (the first game didn't run as smoothly and the hit detection was pretty awful), I still miss the first game's atmosphere and I really hope they get back to that for the third game.

        • Really guys? Ok I will sayt that the addition of daytime levels was a really bad idea because it ruined everything that left 4 dead stood for in the horror aspect, but the second game was a well thought out and coherent improvement.
With the addition of melee weapons and different guns, it not only allows people to personalize their fighting style, it also gives the chance for more content. Hordes in the first game went one of two ways, u were stuck in the open and sorrounded - your probably screwed
or you were all sitting in a corner, and almost no one took damage.
As for the new infected, they provide a new chance for the infected team to counter all the things that the survivors got, in the first game, u got one pull, one on site pin, and a boomer thats it. The jockey and charger definitely provide innovative ways to split the group, and the spitter stops them from camping in a corner. Sure the characters might seem a bit bland and cartoony at times, but come on. Valve made Team Fortress, theyre not going for the ultra realism...its fun, and its a valid improvement off the first games raw awesomeness.

          • I agree with most of what you say, but I like the original left 4 dead because it IS NOT cartoony and bland. I dislike TF for the being bland and cartoony. Left 4 Dead 2, with its little stupid musical notes (and yes, I shut off my music in game already) and nerfed tank make it a game far less to get into. Left 4 Dead gave me nightmares. Left 4 Dead 2 made me laugh. The genre has to take itself seriously, or it just becomes a lame farce.

  • I have never understood why people say the newer infect in 2 are annoying and as you say, "not well though out" What makes the 3 infected in Ld4 so much more amazing? How is a smoker not annoying? I think it's great that they toned down the damage the infected do making planned and effective attacks essential. In the first one it is so easy to attack and you get so much damage from hunters. I think the Jockey can be very useful in a well planned attack.
One aspect i think should be removed in L4D3 is 'death' charging. I think it's fine when they get incapped, but not instant deaths - maybe even if they just hang off the edge. I think L4D2 polished L4D, and i find the melee weapons fine. They should be powerful, otherwise everyone would just use the magnum. I think there should be less in a map though, so only maybe 2 teammates can use them (harder to kill a hoard).

    • The death charge is what makes the charger so effective. You can't do them everywhere which makes it a special thing. Besides I think it would be ridiculous if I charged them, picking them up, and then I fell out the window and they were left holding on to the edge, or just downed.

  • i think left 4 dead 3 should take place at a milatery base and there deffanetly needs to be more specisl infected and more melee wepons and i deffanetly like the screamer idea it sounds so bad ass and all my friends think so to

  • it should take place at Dark Carnival because of the midnight riders easter egg in the passing

  • How about an infected ZOO, and just for that mission the special zombies could change, for example the tank could be an elephant, the charger a ryno or god knows what, it could be an interesting change, imagine that you are running and a marsupial jockey jumps at you XD, its just an idea

  • I know that the newest DLC is probably going to be called Cold Stream. This is a GREAT indicator that L4D3 will come out because it shows that L4D is still a great game. I will assume that L4D3 would come out in 2012 so that it gives them enough time to make it a great game
