Gameplay

We have received many fantastic Left 4 Dead 3 character ideas from our visitors, The Eel, 4-Eyes, The Screamer, plus many more. The characters in L4D are an instrumental part of the game. After all, the game is based on four survivors, each complete strangers to each other. They all have their own personality, style, ethnicity that stands them apart. The same can be said of the Special Infected. Each SI has it’s own ability, strength and weakness. Alone, they are vulnerable, but when working together they are strong and their powers are to be feared.

It’s easy to come up with new character ideas, or new locations for Left 4 Dead 3, because they are part of what makes the Left 4 Dead series so fun. That’s only two thirds of Left 4 Dead’s formula to an amazing game. The last piece which is talked about left often and directly, but is always part of the conversation (if that makes sense?), is Left 4 Dead gameplay.

The game play of Left 4 Dead is what keeps us playing. With many maps to choose from and game play modes including Campaign and Versus. Campaign mode allows you to team up with 3 other human friends to fight through the different Campaign stages. Versus is similar to Campaign where there are four human survivors trying to reach in the end, but now four humans can control the various Special Infected. The release of Left 4 Dead 2 brought us Survival, a timed challenge, where the objective is to survivor in a section of a campaign’s map for as long as possible. Death is imminent. Scavenge was a new 4-on-4 game play requiring the Survivors to collect gas tanks scattered about a map, while Special Infected attempt to stop them.

It would be great, and expected, to see all previous game modes carried over to Left 4 Dead 3. I ask of you, the fans, not only which modes would you like to remain, or dropped, but more importantly what new ideas for game play modes would you like to see?

  • Rescue mode! Add it please!

    One of the 4 survivors is trapped in one area of the map, fighting to survive,
    While the 3 other survivors begins from another area, and their task is to find and rescue the one trapped alone.

    Or maybe 2 surbivors are trapped and the other 2 survivors has to rescue them. :)

    And please add some vehicles to the game, motocycles, skateboards, smaller trucks or whatever would fit in.

    It would also be cool to have a specific map for this vehicle purpose, where you sit in the back of a truck or car,
    And has to fight the infected, while one drive and one passenger sits behind to defend whats in front of you.
    One "endless" road map. COOL!

  • An idea I have for a new game mode is one that's very different than any other mode so far, I call it Pioneer Mode. In this mode, the map would be much bigger, open world, as 1 big non-linear chapter. You wouldn't play as this games 4 new survivors, but instead as a group of other civilians whose sole purpose is to set up the maps of how they would be before your city gets overrun, before the 4 survivors make their way to your town seeking rescue.

    The main goal would be to set up basic things through out the campaign such as Safe houses and hold out points. A big part of this would be looting lots of places in order to fortify safe parts, and putting up graffiti to tell players where to go. Think of this almost like Forge from Halo. And it wouldn't just be "should i make a Safe room in this room or that room", It would be more like having a campaign like No Mercy, but then deciding it would be safer to not go through the sewers, instead going into a whole new section of the city as you reach the hospital.

    There wouldn't be that many infected to fight, if any at all, since your main goal is to make the route safer for any travelers. You would need to think smart as you build, maybe look and see a ledge and think "Hmm, someone could be easily Charged off of that, I better put up a railing there." If you think an area might loose power, leave out some flairs of set some trash cans on fire. And don't forget to disable any car alarms that are still lingering.

    Finally, the map you end up making would get put into a list where other players would play it in Campaign mode and rate it on its difficulty. Top maps (most fun, not easiest) would get put on some sort of leader board.

  • Maybe one of the infected could be called a Skrillex and it kinda like, walks slowly like a witch but it doesn't cry and if you get to close to it, it will look at you and run at you like a witch. :)

  • It would also be fun and very cool to have a one man wins mode.
    (hate mode or rage mod)

    4 survivors fights to survive, but only one is able to win. The one that comes first.
    The 4 survivors should even be able to lock doors, or move obstacles to make it more
    Difficult for the others to survive.

  • And when you play an original campaign, men you have taken really much damage, either make the character move slower, being really hurt, or make him pissed-off and enter some kind of rage.

    All characters should have one specific ability (stronger, faster, better at climbing or jumping etc.)

    Hopes my tips come in handy in some way.

  • LFD3 Idea:
    I'm thinking that LFD3 needs to be taken to the next level. Much like what Blizzard did for the WarCraft series. Very complex to create, but I think the marketing opportunities, as well as,the potential for profit would be amazing.
    I would love to see the design and play of LeftForDead meets WarCraft intermixed with The Walking Dead.

  • Another idea for a new game mode would be one that brings an ultimate competitive multiplayer experience, I guess we should just call it Ultra-Scavenge. It would be the biggest mode yet, holding up to 16 players. It would center around 2 teams, red & blue, each team having 4 survivors and 4 infected. There would be 2 "bases" (saferoom-type areas), each with a generator for that team, and a central point where many gas cans are located. The map for this would be roughly smaller than a whole chapter, but bigger than an ordinary scavenge map. It would be divided into 3 parts, 1 for each teams base and 1 for the middle section (which would be much larger).

    The main goal would be to have your team's collect cans as your team's infected try to stop the other team. Cans are free to grab when they are in the middle section, survivors cannot enter the enemy teams section to steal cans back, but your teams infected can enter to kill them. Cans would continuously spawn in groups of 4 (to prevent teams from collecting several in mass). It will not end until either one team runs out of time or wipes. When a survivor dies, they begin to spawn as more of your teams infected, (It would go from 4 survivors-4 infected to 1 survivor-7 infected).

    The survivors of each team could be any 4 of the 12 available (4 from each game), allowing players (if they started in the lobby) to play as whoever their favorite survivor is, forming a "dream-team" with their friends. Each survivor would also be re-skinned slightly to suit their team.
    For example: If the blue team were to be Zoey, Ellis, Bill, and Coach, then it would give Zoey a blue jacket, Ellis a blue shirt (and hat), Bill a blue... you see where I'm going with this. The infected would also wear clothing colored accordingly.

    An alternative version to this mode could be a capture the flag type mode, where each team would need to raid the others base for the cans.

    The Burserker:he runs as fast as a charger and is Twice as tough and as strong as a tank and if he cant catch you quick enough he roars super loud and sommons tanks

  • how about a Easter egg were the group get abducted by aliens into a flying sauce ( via beam of light ) & all kind of crazy things happen to them there.
    afterward the group is beamed back to earth. But to a later time in the game ( just to mess every ones heads up ) Should be fun & silly!

  • If there is going to be a vs mode on the game,the respawn feature for the zombies needs to be instantly instead of 30 seconds.
    There should be zombie animals such as dogs and they could have the same attributes as a Hunter but hunt in packs.
    The tank should be a little bigger and faster.
    NEED better guns!
    There should be a sprint button for both survivors and zombies.
    Why wasnt there an aim button???
    They should C4 since they got pipe bombs and molotovs.
    There should be more episodes in each campaign and more campaigns period,that made the game too short.
