Left 4 Dead 3 Countdown Website Found

There has been a lot of news recently about a L4D3 website popping up that has a countdown to the release of Left 4 Dead 3. The website is very simple with the typical Left 4 Dead splash across the top much similar to what you would see on the cover of L4D2, except the number 2 is replaced by a 3. Below that is a timer counting down, days:hours:minutes:seconds. Then there is a row of three logos for Valve, Source 2, and Steam.

It is unclear if this is a legit website put out by Valve, or, it’s the work of somebody else looking to troll us. I believe this to be completely fake and is not the work of Valve. My reason is this is a Russian domain (notice the .ru). I can’t see Valve using this domain name to put this silly timer on it. Second, I tried to do a lookup on the domain and here is the information obtained:
domain: L4D3.RU
nserver: ns1.reg.ru.
nserver: ns2.reg.ru.
state: REGISTERED, DELEGATED, UNVERIFIED
person: Private Person
registrar: REGRU-REG-RIPN
admin-contact: http://www.reg.ru/whois/admin_contact
created: 2013.06.19
paid-till: 2014.06.19
free-date: 2014.07.20
source: TCI

Notice this is a private domain name registration so the owner does not want their information displayed. If this was a legit business such as Valve, I am highly positive they wouldn’t hide their information. Doing this same search on l4d.com clearly shows the registrant owner is Valve Corporation.

Lastly, according to this timer, it is set to end on Wednesday Aug. 28th 21st at midnight (EST). When are games ever released on a Thursday? The majority of games are released on Tuesday and this clearly does not point to a Monday midnight release.

One small possibility could be this count down is to when Valve will make their announcement about Left 4 Dead 3 coming out in the future. Some people think Valve will make their announcement during GamesCom this Summer in Germany. It is possible, but this timer has nothing to do with that. GamesCom runs from Aug 21-25th and this timer is a few days off.

In short, this website was put together by some person in Russia who happened to obtain that domain name. Don’t expect any news from Valve about L4D3, or believe they own l4d3.ru until something more solid develops. I am curious to see what happens to the countdown when it finally hits 0:0:0:0.
